Speak Up!

My Updated Political Views: Love, Trust, Respect, & A Just Food System.

What do you believe in?

(I just realized that saying i’m “very Liberal”, doesn’t mean anything anymore…)

I’ve had a few friends contact me (thank you) since i started this program asking me for more resources on what they can do… (most reacted strongly after watching FOOD, INC. the documentary)

So here it is… a few links. because:

It’s Your Turn! As you scurry around to get last minute gifts and prepare to warm yourself this holiday with a lil extra care in the giving spirit, remember that, like thanksgiving, for most people this is the hardest time of year. Not everyone has access to a ginormous cooked feast, nor family, or a warm house to go ‘home’ to.

I’ve been super busy trying to end my first semester with a bang! …With my agricultural paper on school gardens as a way to ride this shifting cultural wave with experimental education, and finishing my food policy advocacy portfolio on raising the standards for food safety in America,

I now urge YOU to take this opportunity to look into some crazy food policies also and take action.  Thanks for checking on my lil blog here as frequently as you do, while I’ve been getting my foodie life and identity together in fighting for what I believe in, which is access to Good Food for All.  Thus, while you support me in my endevours to “change the food system, and feed people”, I hope I can inspire you to be so compelled yourself to look into and peruse a lil further, as I support you to jump onto this very apparent social food movement that we’re all in.

It’s time,

and trust, it’s like surfing, why fight against the current, when you can just hop on baby. and enjoy the ride.

websites of interest that take precedence include:

PAN Pesticide Action Network (A Non-Profit Advocacy Group, I know the name of it suggests… well, you tell me. actually…)

a chance to write to the dept of justice about monsanto… (they’re requesting opinion about large agri business!) oh you know you want to, xmas just came early! no one can utter that name without shivering these days… esp if you think about the beloved soybean. by golly, just dooo ittt…

President’s Food Safety Working Group (FSWG) site:

Obama’s way of embracing the national priority of food safety. A forum for change and a way to stay informed with fact sheets and key findings, and ways to get involved.

Food & Water Watch (Non-Profit Advocacy Group) site:

has tons of pre-filled out letters in the TAKE ACTION section that you can email to the senator of your choice,

(For all y’alls that don’t believe — I already got responses from two senators ;) .. it’s pretty cool.)

Inspiration for trying out the “Local” Bandwagon:

Alice Water’s Edible School Yard (CA based org)

Just Food (NY based org)

Slow Food USA (National Chapters, paying homage to the movement that started in Rome, Italy on the Spanish Steps…)

and finally for some fun, quirky, AND creatively subtle Xmas Presents?!

how cute is this Herb Growing Tater Pot or Mini Rainboot Garden?

or these Flowers in a Can?

Eco Coffee Cup?

hahaha, i’ve been having too much fun shopping online in between study sessions…

and for those of you that MUST get a REAL XMAS TREE — at least buy it from a Charitable cause like this one that my friend started — Charity Tree NY

(Do not get me started on why chopping down trees for the sheer two weeks of decorating it in a house while watching it die and then throwing it out onto your driveway to have to hauled away while leaving behind the incredible mess of pine needles – is a GUUD idea. SURE it SMELLS GOOD, but they have sprays for that.  That and if you walk by tree farms and grab trimmings, they are plenty smelly good to sit on your mantle, that is if you live in a large urban city as well.  Our family has had our fakey and endearingly so xmas tree for 20 years now. it’s AWESOME. and it’s FAKE. and it gets unpacked and packed up so gently everr year by the Lo sistahs)

So make some green with your green, literally. ;) That’s a better return on yo money ain’t it?

Invest in yo self, Invest in yo future, yo.

BE a MAN! DO the RIGHT THING! :)

PEACE.
