Screw saving the planet…
hear me out.
it’s time to learn to help ourselves, and really learn to take care of each other as a human race -
do you think the planet needs saving?
mother nature has the ability to wipe us out in a matter of seconds with her forces – earthquakes, typhoons, volcanic eruptions, tsunami’s. – i don’t think the problem is global warming,
i think the problem is us.
and climate change is the earth’s subtle not so subtle hit you over the head warning that it’s time to do something about our practices as human beings over centuries of occupying its space.
yes yes let’s talk about sustainability shall we –
it’s the sustainability of our hope and of our future that needs to be protected, not the earth’s
when businesses and global corporations talk about sustainability, they are talking about OUR ability to regenerate resources, not the earth’s. (or at least this is what i hope they are referring to, and should be if not)
i have learned this from my recent travels to Japan.
seriously, for a country and a culture to have figured out how to live along side fault lines, (our family shy-ed away from the typhoon in Okinawa and 7.1 earthquake in Tokyo by one day), and active Volcanos on the island of Kyushu – most recent eruptions in 1990 that lasted 6 years straight, STRAIGHT! – is an AMAZING feat of learning from the past and making the most out of it life now –
think of all the AMAZING PRODUCE grown on its rich soils, executed and cooked perfectly, offered in the tiny but perfect portion sizes of nutritious morsels. in other words – Great non cheap filler food. every bite is nutritious, excess waste is in the packaging, and a non over hording mentality available to the masses.
i’m not talking about Tokyo the most expensive city to live in at the moment in the world – that’s another subject of interest) the japanese have really figured out how to protect their own, and how to educate the future about it. when i travel, i love to see local, do local, and eat local. i like to walk in the outskirts of the cities, see the farms, and run through jungles, i love to dip in the ocean and feel the wrath of the powerful sun on my 50+ sunscreen protected skin. cuz i ain’t kidding around when i’m amongst nature, because i know mother nature doesn’t fuck around either.
and when along the way, i find evidence in japanese social structuring and government policies that protect the people’s livestyles even on my daily explorations as a ‘visitor’, it brings me such joy to find family friendly, health conscious, protecting the future kind of living on my non local level so readily available and tickling the fancies of other travelers i meet along the way. and i LIKE IT.
the newest trend over there is LOHAS living (Lifestyle Of Health And Sustainability) and ppl follow it cuz it’s trendy. “trendy” is such a buzz word in society, but then again, i like to question these things. Why not follow a good trend? One that promotes healthy lifestyle, and protest’s that basic right for the people through their WELL BEING instead of protecting their ‘pocket right’ as i like to call it in north america. (by that i mean the energy spent protecting the people of power/people of resources/people with MONEY’s POCKETS with no responsibility to the health and well being of the masses of people they affect each and every day on the ground level, on the health level, on the we’re all human level) money buys you availability, buys you health, buys you better food, and comfort in north america. money buys you quality of life and a ticket into society. WHY IS THAT? it’s time for a real change. you can’t take money into the grave. let’s spend our resrouces on protecting the people, improving quality of life. and not choosing to be ignorant about it.
(when i think about the crash diets in america, i shiver. and it makes me scared and sad for people who just don’t put their health first, who don’t have the means to, and who don’t know any better because of misinformation)
so i shout, i whisper, i speak to you some information. i’ll dance it, i’ll sing it, i’ll write about it. because i care. about you. as a human being, as my friend, as my family, as my co-worker, as a stranger i share the same transportation path with, as a fellow internet user generated identity, as a lover, and a fellow goofy warm smiley person. i’ll nag about it like your mom nags you because she too cares about the life she brought into this world.
We all just want to be loved and feel taken care of in the end right? i’m sick and tired of the “fend for yourself” mentality in America. people in that country deserve so much more than just hope. they deserve to be taken care of and treating like people. and that starts with SURVIVAL. basic survival. FOOD, WATER, SHELTER, HEALTH. (80,000 ppl in LA are homeless and outcasted – the largest number in the WORLD of homeless let alone in the nation, 1 in 2 kids in elementary schools in america has diabetes (type 2) or knows someone who is suffering from), we ship in water from fiji and across the world causing large carbon footprints cuz our local tap in most places makes people sick, people who get sick from crap food rely on the healthcare system which pumps them up on drugs if they ever see a doctor, and are left with a lifetime of debt in paying for a system that doesn’t solve the problem, that just suppresses the symptoms and doesn’t care about the people.
as i quote Whoppie on a former episode of ‘the view’ that cracked me up –
WHAT THE HELLLLLLLLLLLLLL.
we pride ourselves on innovation, passion, drive, and momentum.
let’s FIX THIS.
it doesn’t take one man, say the president to fix everything in one day, one month, 4 years. he’s working hard, he’s already spent his lifetime fighting for what he believes in, you can do it too. you’re fighting to survive each and everyday yea? the rights you have, that americans fight to have need to be USED. and they need to be used now to help each other out as a nation in implementing change. our generation is screaming for cultural revolution, because we’re tired of all this shit, being duped, scammed, stolen from, and hidden from when it has all to do with our quality of life.
it takes a collective society to believe in that hope, to keep continuing to educate themselves about themselves, and to inspire our future to do the same.
living in Canada this year, having the luxury to see things, experience joy in quality of life, visiting all over Europe, and japan this summer has taught me a lot by comparison. ad even so, i feel as though i have a responsibility to myself and others because i care to spread information like wildfire about truth and reality and offer support where there is none on subjects like these because i am privileged, because my parents gave up their comforts in life for me to have this opportunity to be so privileged. and because we live in north America, it’s a privilege, it’s luck, and it’s birth right. so i USE it. i do apologize for my didactic tone, but it’s cuz i care. and so far (so far…:) ) this is my only means of expressing it… i will find other ways! :)
there’s no comfort in change, but likewise, there’s no forward movement in comfort.
so i say, why would you continue to sit in your own shit, live it, breathe it, get sick from it, be forced to turn a blind eye to it, if you know you’re sitting in it? By instinct, that’s just a bad move on survival, and that ain’t so fit.
edumacate yo self
spread the love
care about others
and EAT GOOD FOOD
i like to live by these BUZZ words ;) because to me, there’s no other joy in life than LOVE & FOOD.
and like the japanese, it’s time to LOHAS it up! cuz it just feels so DAMN GOOD when you’re taking care of yourself and have vitality!
YEEEEAAAAAAA!
(bring it on NYU, i am ready to embark on my journey. let’s do this! t-minus 4 days…)
*peace & happy making,
